Lalpir (known as Lal Pir (Pvt.) Limited in Pakistan, which is ISO 14001 & OSHA, 18000 certified company) owns and operates Lal Pir & Pak Gen Power stations (two units), the most efficient power plants in Pakistan, located near Muzaffar Garh. Each unit is a 365-MW steam-turbine, heavy-fuel-oil (HFO) fired electric generating unit.
In all of these activities protection of and minimizing the affects on the environment is an essential aspect, which is controlled centrally. At Group level we pursue the development of the key performance indicators that are important for the power industry:
- A continuous emission monitoring system (CEMS) has been installed at the stack to monitor the quality of stack gases including;
- Carbon monoxide CO
- Nitrous Oxide NOx
- Sulphur Dioxide SO2
- Oxygen O2, and
- Opacity.
- Noise Management Program
- Effluents Treatment
- A flue gas desulfurizer (FGD) with 85 to 90% efficiency has been provided for the removal of SO2 from the flue gases.
Initiatives:
LalPir is always working to benefit the environment and economy by improving its efficiency. By these efforts and continuous improvement projects, our units are running on same efficiency even after fourteen years of commercial operation.
The initiatives are:
• ISO-14001 Certification
• Registered with EPA SMART-II program for monthly online reporting
• Construction of New Cooling Tower cells that is reducing the 11,000 Tons of CO2 per year
• Installation of Variable Frequency Drives at Forced Draft Fans, Gas recirculation Fans and Boiler Feed Water Pumps
• Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS) for Flue gas analysis
• Online Monitoring and Control of effluents
• Replacement of hazardous Chlorine gas with Sodium Hypo Chloride
• Extensive Plantation of trees
